Winter time in Russia

There are 4 seasons in a year and every season gives its wonders and offers people to spend their time in an exciting way.
My name is Anastasia and I’d like to present you winter time in this video. I’d like to say some words about its temperature in the central part of Russia. I’d like to describe the winter frosty scenery in rural areas mentioning winter activities which are worth trying in winter time. I’d also consider lovers of winter and anti-lovers of it and attract your attention to some ways of spending their time outdoors and indoors.
I live in Moscow region, in a small town, Chekhov, not far away from Moscow. Chekhov is named after a famous Russian writer, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. My town is surrounded by forests and fields and the greatest part of it consists of private houses and detached houses which are nearby forests or fields.
The typical temperature for the central part of Russia for winter time doesn’t fall lower than 25 degrees Celsius. There can be just some cold days in January or February, but the temperature changes constantly and goes up and down. But, this winter will stay in my memory, because I have never experienced such a cold winter before. The temperature has been over 30 degrees Celsius below zero and it has lasted for a couple of weeks in December, January and February. It’s unbelievable, but the fact.
This winter is very special, because it’s also one of the snowiest winters, I have ever had. All the streets have been over snowed, houses and roofs have been over snowed, too. People can feel the real frost in the air, see some iced patterns on the windows which alter every day. Frosty winter days allow people to see the purity everywhere. In forests, trees look like as if they have been covered with a white fluffy blanket. There are snow drifts everywhere. They are as high as bushes. You can feel the harmony of nature, listen to some birds’ singing and enjoy the picturesque and lovely atmosphere around.
From one point of view, this is the beauty of nature, but from the other hand, it troubles people so much. It leads to slow traffic, traffic jams, car accidents and inability to park a car. Before leaving private houses, people have to shovel the snow for an hour or longer. From the start it’s reasonable, because it’s a good form of exercise for your muscles, but from the other hand the snow drifts grow, grow and grow and there is no other place to throw the snow. Snow drifts this year are as high as my home gates.
Frankly speaking, I love winter, because the 17th of February is my date of birth and every year I look forward to this date to become one year older, to share this significant day with my nearest and dearest and make a wish. But, winter time also offers people to do a great number of activities which are impossible for other seasons: snowboarding, skiing, skating, playing hockey, go sledding, playing snowballs, making a snowman.
It’s always exciting for kids to make a snowman from the sticky snow where the nose is a carrot and eyes are some cones. It’s always funny to throw a snowball at anyone and you’d like to get a snowball in reply. It’s fantastic to ski around the forest and admire the nature. You feel breathless, but this is the record. It’s risky, but challenging to go down the rocky mountain. It’s a famous Russian amusement to go snow tubing. It’s the attraction not only for kids, but for people of all ages. Especially, when you go down with the excessive speed and the frosty air blows into your face.
For anti-lovers of winter, it’s a great time to spend inside. People can look at the window, admire the snowfall, have a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and read a book. They can wear seasonal winter socks and a woolen sweater and sit by the fireplace in peace and quietness.
As people all around the world say: “There is no bad weather and everything is good in its season!”
